Taste of success for young chefs in Tameside
|
ASPIRING chefs have given James Purnell a tour of the kitchens at Tameside College, just days after they were presented with a prestigious international award. The college, in Ashton-under-Lyne, offers a number of courses for students who are hoping to have a career in the hospitality trade. And every day the catering and hospitality students put their skills to the test at the college’s own Reflections Restaurant, which is open to the public. The college’s flagship restaurant is designed to provide students with the experience they need to perform well and to meet the...

STALYBRIDGE and Hyde MP James Purnell is calling for a job guarantee for anyone who has been out of work for more than 12 months. The government already offers a job guarantee to anyone aged between 18 and 24, who has been claiming Job Seekers Allowance for more than six months. And now James Purnell has joined a coalition of labour-market experts calling for a similar guarantee to be offered to anyone who has been out of work for 12 months or longer. In making the call, members of the coalition – which includes representatives from the TUC, Demos’ Open...

The Summer Show, the annual Scarecrow Competition, Remembrance Sunday and the Nativity Play are all expected to be among the highlights captured on camera. But, in what will be a General Election year, Ian says the Association was keen to ensure their photographs also...

Purnell: How to renew the best of Labour traditions
|
Writing in a national newspaper earlier this week, James Purnell put the case for a radical Labour manifesto, drawing on the best of Labour’s traditions and applying them to the challenges of today. The piece, which was published in the Guardian, is reproduced below. Gordon Brown will lead Labour into the next Election. For all my known frustrations, I can also see that he's a remarkable man, who deserves credit for preventing this recession becoming a depression. David Cameron would have flunked that test. We can win but only by offering a radically different vision of society. That isn't hard...
